Overview

The PL-1340E-1 is a 13″ x 40″ gear head engine lathe built for production shops, maintenance departments, and training programs that need reliable turning power on single-phase service. It’s the entry point into Baileigh’s geared-head line and the machine most shops step up to when they outgrow a belt-driven lathe.

Geared-head drive is why it holds a cut. Torque transfers through hardened gears rather than a belt, so the spindle doesn’t slip and lose speed when the tool loads up. Eight spindle speeds span 70 to 2,000 RPM — low enough for heavy roughing on large diameters, high enough for fine finishing passes.

The 2-inch spindle bore is the spec that expands what you can take on. Bar stock runs through the headstock instead of being cut short and re-chucked, which eliminates secondary operations on repetitive work. A D1-5 spindle nose gives secure, repeatable chuck mounting, and with the gap removed swing opens to 16.9 inches.

A 2-axis SINO digital readout is included, not an add-on. Real-time X and Y feedback means fewer measurement errors, less scrap, and faster setup. The machine is CSA/UL certified with a full safety package — foot brake, chuck guard, lead screw cover, full-length splash guard and chip tray — which matters for regulated facilities and vocational programs.

Ordering and freight

Ships by LTL freight at 1,278 lb gross. Freight deliveries are tailgate — the driver brings the shipment to the rear of the trailer but does not unload. Liftgate service is available if you don’t have a dock or forklift. Send us your delivery ZIP and dock situation and we will have a freight quote back to you the same day.
