Overview

The 209BHH is the 20-inch step up from Powermatic’s 15-inch class, and the capacity difference is what buys it a spot on the floor: 20 inches of width and 8 inches of maximum board thickness handle glued-up panels, wide slabs, and heavy stock that a 15-inch machine simply cannot take. A 5 HP single-phase motor holds feed rate through dense hardwood instead of bogging halfway across a wide board.

The four-row helical cutterhead carries 68 four-sided carbide inserts at 5,200 RPM. Each insert shears rather than chops, which is what keeps figured and reversing grain from tearing out. When an edge dulls you rotate it to a fresh corner — four edges per insert, individually accessible, no knife setting and no dial indicator.

A built-in digital readout sets thickness by number, so the same dimension repeats across passes, across days, and across operators without test cuts. Two feed speeds cover the whole job: 16 FPM when the finish decides the outcome, 28 FPM when you’re hogging rough stock toward dimension.

Cast iron infeed and outfeed tables span a combined 51-1/2 inches, adding the mass that damps vibration and the length that keeps long boards flat through the cut. Upgraded locking casters let you reposition a 606-lb machine and then pin it in place.
